Recent Additions (Week of October 25-31, 2009):
GeoCities closed on Monday, October 26, 2009. I still had a few GeoCities links here and there at that time. I will admit that I had a morbid curiosity about what would happen if I left some of the links. Now I know. All GeoCities links to pages in the subdirectories on this site redirect to the main page of the site, rather than to the correct destination in the subdirectories. All GeoCities images are now broken.
One reason I waited to finish changing the old links is that it was very time-consuming to go through the raw HTML code for every page of a rather large and a completely functioning site to find the links that needed to be changed. Once Tuesday arrived, it was easy to find the bad links since they were no longer working. I had quite a few broken images in some sections, such as Trixie Belden and the Dana Girls, which are the oldest large sections on the site.
All bad links should now be fixed. I have followed every single link through every page of the site (I think), and everything should be fine.
Recent Additions (June 21, 2009 and ongoing):
Note: The original URL of this site was http://www.geocities.com/brmthebgs and was upgraded to http://www.series-books.com in late 2006. Since that time, anyone clicking on a link to the old GeoCities site has been redirected to the current URL(s). The redirect is still in effect as you will see if you click on the above GeoCities link.
Here is the potential problem: GeoCities will close later this year
GeoCities will be closing all of its sites later this year. This does not affect me or this site since I upgraded my site in 2006. The contents of this site are safe. However, I am assuming that my old GeoCities links may cease to function at some point later this year. There is a possibility that the redirect may still work. I have no idea, but I feel that I should be proactive and change any remaining GeoCities links.
Most of the old GeoCities links were gradually changed over to series-books.com in the last three years, but an undetermined number of old GeoCities links still remain. This is a rather large site, so it takes awhile to go through all of the files and make sure the links are updated.
I am in the process of going through all of the links on this site. I have found and changed a number of GeoCities links. I try to make sure I view the edited page and click on every single link to make certain that I did not screw any of them up. It is a very tedious process, and I slip up at times. Please let me know by leaving a comment in my blog if at any point you click on a link that does not work.
Last, if you own a GeoCities free site and did not know about this, you need to log into your account and figure out what to do to save your files.
